You can register for Semart, create your first business, add an item and prepare an Android point-of-sale terminal in one guided setup. If you are still comparing systems, use the small-business POS selection guide first. This article follows the current Semart workflow and includes a controlled test sale before you begin taking live orders.
Start at the Semart registration page when you have the following information ready:
your full name, email address and phone number;
a password that meets the on-screen requirements;
your business name and a short business description;
your country, operating currency and timezone;
the name and selling price of one real item; and
an Android device for Semart POS.
Use accurate business details from the beginning. Currency and timezone choices affect how transactions are recorded and displayed, so confirm them before completing onboarding.
1. Create your Semart account
On the registration page, enter:
your full name;
your email address;
your phone number;
your password; and
the same password again for confirmation.
Follow the password rules shown on the form. Use an address you can access immediately because Semart will send the next step by email.
Before submitting, check the spelling of your email address and phone number. A small error can delay verification or make account recovery harder later.
2. Verify your email and sign in
After registration, Semart shows a check-your-inbox screen. Open the verification message and follow its link. If the email does not appear:
check the spam or junk folder;
confirm that you registered with the intended address;
allow a few minutes for delivery; and
use the resend option on the Semart screen if needed.
Once verification is complete, sign in with the same email address and password.
Do not share the account password with staff. Complete the owner setup first, then use the product's user and permission controls when other people need access.
3. Create your first business
If your account has no business yet, Semart opens the Create Your First Business step. Enter:
Business name: the name staff will recognise when choosing a business;
Business description: a short explanation of what you sell;
Country: the country where the business operates;
Currency: the currency used for prices and transactions; and
Timezone: the local timezone used for business activity.
Review these choices carefully, especially currency and timezone. Then create the business and wait for the Workspace to load.
If you later operate more than one business, always check which business is selected before adding products, devices or transactions. Items and sales belong to the chosen business context.
4. Add one simple item
In the Semart Workspace, go to Catalog, then Items, and choose Add Item or Create Item.
For the first setup, use a real item with a straightforward price. Complete the required selling and category information shown by the form, then save it.
Keep the first item simple:
use a clear customer-facing name;
enter the actual selling price;
choose the correct way the item is sold;
add stock tracking only if you are ready to maintain stock records; and
add variants or modifiers only when the product genuinely needs customer choices.
A variant represents a version of an item, such as size. A modifier represents an optional selection or addition, such as an extra topping. Creating unnecessary options makes the POS screen and order record harder to use.
After saving, return to the item list and confirm that the name, price and availability are correct. Correct any setup error before moving to the POS device.
5. Review how customers will pay
Before the first live transaction, decide which payment methods the business will accept. In the Workspace, payment-type settings are available under Management, then Payment Types.
For an initial controlled test, cash is usually the simplest method because it does not require an external payment-provider transaction. If you configure another payment method, confirm its settlement and reconciliation process before staff use it.
The label selected at checkout should match how the customer actually paid. Otherwise, the sales total may be correct while the payment breakdown is not.
6. Install Semart POS on Android
Open the Semart POS for Android page on the device you plan to use and continue to the official app listing. Install the app, then sign in with the same Semart account.
After login, select the business you created. Check the business name before continuing so that the device loads the intended items and records sales in the correct place.
If the app does not show the item you just added, first confirm the selected business and the device's internet connection. Then allow the item list to refresh before recreating anything.
7. Choose, create and activate a terminal
Semart POS asks you to choose a terminal. A terminal identifies the point-of-sale device or counter used for transactions.
If an appropriate terminal already exists, select it. Its status determines the next action:
Unassigned: choose Assign & Activate to attach it to the current device and activate it.
Inactive: choose Activate before selling.
Active: select it if it is the correct terminal for this device.
If no terminal exists, create one with a clear name, such as Main Counter or Event Tablet. A newly created terminal still needs to be assigned and activated before it can be used.
Avoid generic names such as POS 1 when the business will have multiple locations or mobile devices. A clear terminal name makes it easier to understand where transactions originated.
Terminal management is also available in the Workspace under Settings, then POS Devices.
8. Complete a controlled test sale
Run one test before serving a customer. Use the same stages staff will follow in a reliable order-management flow:
Tap the item on the POS screen.
Select any genuine variant or modifier required by the product.
Check the quantity and total.
Choose PAY NOW.
Select cash or another payment type prepared for the test.
Complete the payment step.
Confirm that the sale and its receipt record are available.
Use a clearly understood test method. If the transaction creates a real payment or accounting record, follow the proper void or refund workflow rather than deleting evidence or leaving the sale unexplained.
Return to the Workspace and check that the transaction appears only once, under the correct business and payment type. If stock tracking is enabled, confirm that the quantity changed as expected.
Check the complete selling flow
Before opening for live sales, verify each part of the flow:
Product names and prices match the menu or price list.
Tax treatment, where applicable, has been checked for the business.
Required variants and modifiers are easy for staff to understand.
Accepted payment types are configured and staff know how to confirm them.
The Android device has reliable power and an appropriate connectivity plan.
The selected business and terminal are correct.
The test sale appears once in the Workspace.
Stock changes are correct for tracked items.
Receipt handling has been tested.
Staff have only the access they need.
If the business uses a receipt or kitchen printer, test it separately with the exact Android device, connection method and order flow used at the counter. The thermal-printer selection checklist covers the exact-model acceptance test. A successful screen transaction does not by itself confirm that every peripheral is ready.
Start small, then add complexity
Your first successful test proves the basic chain: verified account, correct business, available item, active terminal, completed payment and recorded sale.
Add the rest of the catalogue in manageable groups. Test variants, modifiers, stock tracking, printers and additional payment methods as you introduce them. This makes setup problems easier to identify than configuring the entire operation at once.
Semart's screens may continue to improve after this guide is published. If a label differs slightly, follow the current on-screen instruction while keeping the same sequence: create and verify the account, set up the business, prepare the catalogue and payments, activate the POS terminal, then test the complete sale.
