We are a team of social entrepreneurs, with a passion for improving lives. Reacting to the rising cost of living, the team decided to focus on improving financial literacy among street food vendors in the Klang Valley area, with an end goal of improving the quality of life for them.
The team, mentored by Encik Kamarul Asraf from Petronas, consists of five members – each with their own set of skills. Azri is a former teacher, enthusiastic in sharing knowledge. He has experience in business himself which he has his own burger stalls . Liyana is an entrepreneur with a financial background of 5 years in her corporates days, passionate in helping people and excites to contribute in social and environment changes. Sofiya is a recent master’s degree graduate, excited to start the journey of empowering microentrepreneurs with the right know-hows. Siva is a social entrepreneur who improved the lives of countless refugees and the underprivileged and has experience in marketing and ecommerce. Hanif is a former project manager at MYRC TRIS where he explored facial recognition technology, and is thrilled to encourage the use of technology to improve the day-to-day tasks of street food vendors.
Together, the team interviewed over a hundred entrepreneurs and discovered that a majority of them were struggling, mainly due to the inability to react to the changes in the economy due to financial illiteracy. These people needed help, and the team was eager to help. Thereupon, Semart was born.
